Earnest Apron-the purpose
Earnest Apron offers simple, from scratch, recipes for two. They are frugal, cost-effective and can be recreated from basic items from the humblest of pantries. The recipes are intended for two, and tested for two.
Of course, it’s personal
I, like many others face difficult financial times. For that reason, I trim out frivolous expenses and adhere to a food budget for additional savings. Thankfully, food is a controllable expense, and it certainly is possible to eat well for less.
Things are real here
I am truly blessed to share my life with a man who accepts me for who I am, because I’m pretty quirky. For example, he listens intently to my ramblings about everything I like, dislike, and wonder about, including the existence of wild cows to the advantages of laundry bluing. He is old school and set in his ways, but above all, intensely funny. Essentially, he’s much like a bear; muscular…and always hungry. Furthermore, he simply won’t do “weird” food.
The ingredients used by Earnest Apron are basic, common, and readily accessible. I am not a fan of recipes that use condensed soups or convenience sauces in place of the sauce component of a recipe. I’m also leery of making things in a crock pot that are better off baked, roasted, boiled etc. (Seriously, that crock pot lasagna would be better coming from the oven.) Sorry, I just won’t do it.
Experience and good intentions
I am a culinary school graduate and have over 15 years of experience in university dining hall and soup kitchen management, including food procurement, menu planning and recipe development. Food blogging is exciting, and a completely new experience for me. I have many ideas for Earnest Apron, but for now, my focus will be on tasty frugal recipes.
I’m really glad you are here.
